Clara Lara and Carlingford School Trip Update

Ms Coady, Ms Thakarar & Mr Shanahan’s 3rd & 4th classes went to Claralara in Co Wicklow on Wednesday 12th of June. Ms Duignan & Ms Forde’s 5th & 6th Classes went to Carlingford, Co Louth on Monday 10th of June.
All the classes had an enjoyable time – despite the weather being a little cool and damp. The teachers were very proud of how all the pupils in Scoil Úna Naofa behaved on their school trips.

Athletics

At the end of May, athletes from 3rd – 6th travelled to Santry Stadium to compete in Santry Sports. Santry Sports is run every year by Cumann na mBunscoil, which also organises the Gaelic football, hurling and camogie competitions in the schools. Schools from all over Dublin city and county travel to the stadium to compete. The day opened with all the school teams parading around the stadium track, which was a great honour for the athletes. Our athletes ran well, but unfortunately didn’t make it to the winners podium this year. Well done to all who represented the school so well.

Standardised Testing

Testing for all pupils takes place during the month of May. Please ensure that children are well rested for the testing which will be ongoing in the junior school from the 8th May and begins in the senior school from Tuesday 14th May onwards. As we have been selected by the Department of Education & Skills to take part in further field research to improve standards in testing, our 2nd and 6th class pupils will be undertaking a second set of tests this year, good luck to all!!

Junior Achievement Volunteers

Junior Achievement Business volunteers will visit the school on Friday 17th May for a STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering and Maths) workshop and goal orientated lessons. This involves working with our two 5th classes using P.E. and Maths as a blended lesson to enable children to see that Maths is all around us in everyday life.

Junior Achievement volunteers will continue to visit 5th class pupils for a period of five more weeks as part of this initiative.

Gardening Team News

News from The Gardening Team

The New Gardening Team was formed in April 2019, to help Claire in the garden.  As part of the project, compost bins have been put into 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Classes. Raw fruit and vegetables only will be put into the bins, and each day the Gardening Team will empty the classroom bins into the compost bin in the garden. A layer of paper will also be added, and we should see the compost forming over the coming weeks and months.
